Selamat Hari Raya/Eid Mubarak my friends!! I’m writing up this post in between visits – I’ve been down with the flu the past week and this weekend is going to be a busy one with lots of visiting, eating and spending time with my family. A few days ago my package from Glossier came with some products that I wanted to use for the festive period. It was a great pick-me-up when I was feeling down and ill!
Perfecting Skin Tint in Dark
I’ve been eyeing the Perfecting Skin Tint for a while now. I stopped wearing foundation a few years ago and I’ve been trying to clear my skin, so this felt like the right fit if I wanted a little something extra before I apply my concealer. I knew what to expect – sheer, dewy coverage that evens out my skin tone with a subtle brightening effect. It feels comfortable on my face and I like how my skin still looks like skin, textures and all. I might even consider including this in my everyday makeup routine!
I love mascara. It’s the most important part of my makeup routine for me, and I’m always on the hunt for new products to try. So imagine my excitement when Lash Slick was released! I knew I had to get it. I applied it for the first time this morning and I’m really impressed with how it lengthens and separates my lashes. What’s lacking for me is volume. I love thick dramatic lashes, and this just didn’t do that well enough for me.
Lidstar in Lily, Cub and Herb
I was looking forward to trying this the most! I was really tempted to get every colour from the Lidstar range, but I managed to restrain myself – at least for now :p What I noticed when I swatched this was that the darker colours felt smoother and more evenly pigmented as compared to the lighter colour (Lily). I feel that this is quite common when you compare lighter pigments to darker ones in other products like lipstick, cream highlights, etc., so it didn’t bother me as much. I’m wearing Lily today and one tip that I can share is that with this product, application is key. Dabbing will give you a lot more colour payoff, versus swiping it all over the lid which is great for blending it out at the edges or creating a sheer wash of colour over the lids. But for maximum glitter, dab, dab, dab!
Hi guys! It’s been a long while since my last beauty-related post so I thought that I’d share some of the products that I’m loving this month. First is a shampoo and conditioner pair from The Body Shop that I honestly did not think I’d like at all. It was my first time shopping there for myself, and I was genuinely surprised at how limited their haircare range is. The banana-scented products intrigued me the most, so I got a bottle of shampoo and conditioner from that line and ended up really enjoying them a lot! One thing I did notice is that without the conditioner, the shampoo dried my hair out so be sure to buy them both together to really get the most out of the line.
Next is a Micro Cleanse Super Scrub from Alpha-H. I know how important exfoliating is but I haven’t had the chance to pick up a scrub until some time last month during a Sephora online sale. I love that it’s made from eco-friendly Jojoba beads, and that they’re fine enough to be used on the daily. It also has glycolic acid and peppermint which leave my face feeling very refreshed. I have noticed that my skin has been looking brighter since I started on the scrub, though that might also be because I never used to exfoliate prior to this.
Last is Fenty Beauty’s Match Stix in Rum, another beauty buy from the most recent Sephora sale. I’ve been rocking a pretty nice tan since I got back from Bali and I wanted a highlighter that was more bronzey to match my current skin tone. Rum is a beautiful copper shade that gives off a very natural-looking highlight on my skin. It’s a look that I absolutely adore and the shimmer skinstick has been making a frequent appearance in my makeup bag ever since!
A while ago, I talked about one of my beauty essentials. Today, I will be sharing with you yet another one of my essentials that I listed as part of my January hits a few posts back. Besides sunblock, one other product I rarely leave home without is concealer. So much so, that I actually stopped putting on liquid foundation because I realised that all I needed day-to-day was concealer and some setting powder. Living in a humid climate made me more conscious about what I put on my face and allowed me to find ways to cut down on layers to let my skin breathe more easily. I have actually noticed an improvement in my skin condition since then, though that could also be attributed to a more dedicated skincare routine that I’ve cultivate through the years.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer is an absolute dream. A little bit of product goes a long way, and it feels so light on my skin. Before this, I used to blend out my concealer with a brush because it’s quicker, but I realise that with Naked Skin, I prefer to take my time to blend it in using my fingertips. I find that this method provides the best results and gives me more control over my application. Just in case, I go over everything with a brush to make sure it’s all blended in.
Choosing the right shade is always a problem for me because my skin tone changes very frequently depending on how much time I spend in the sun. I buy a lot of cosmetics online but never concealer/powder/foundation… it’s always better to go straight to the counter and get advice from the salesperson tending to it. I love that Naked Skin blends into my skin wonderfully and doesn’t stand out like a pale patch when I get tanner. I believe it will also work well as a highlight colour, looking at how great it blends.
This is the first time I’m using a concealer with a doe-foot applicator and I’m absolutely loving it! Compared to sticks or roll-on applicators, doe-foot ones offer more precision and control over how much product I want on that particular area. As I mentioned, a little bit of this goes a long way so precise application is key to avoid any caking.
