    Beauty Essentials: Sunblock

Oh wow, how warm the weather has been! It’s been crazy sunny here in Singapore and everyday I have to force myself out of the door when all I want to do is lock myself inside a cool room all day and not have to face the heat. Sunblock has always been an essential item in my makeup collection, even more so during these past few weeks. I thought that I’d share with you the products that I use for daily UV protection and some of the options that you have if you are thinking of stocking up on some sunblock soon.

I alternate between three different sunblocks, all from Za: The True White EX Power Block UV, Perfect Protector and Day Protector. If you’re wondering why I have so many, I used to intern at a digital ad agency and we would receive beauty products during press events. They gave out a pack which included these three sunblocks, so I got all three for free, yay! I couldn’t tell the difference between them at first but they are each special in their own subtle ways. Of course, you wouldn’t need three sunblocks all at once, so just read on to find out more about each product and make your decision based on your preferences and day-to-day habits! And just so you know, I don’t really take notice of any “whitening” effects that the product has, so I won’t be talking about any of that in this post.

    1. True White EX Power Block UV

Za, sunblock, true white, beauty, beauty blogger, sunscreen, uv, uv protection, singapore blogger, review, asian blogger, hijabi blogger, fashion blogger, fashion blog, true white ex, true white ex power block uv

This sunblock is quite peculiar because it is watery. I’ve never encountered watery sunblock before, not even with Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen and that was water-based! Before application, I always have to make sure that I shake the bottle well so the product would mix properly inside the bottle. A little of this goes a long way and although it isn’t oily and doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky, I can still feel the layer of sunblock sitting on my skin. I only use this when I’m heading out with no makeup on.

    2. True White EX Perfect Protector

Za, sunblock, true white, beauty, beauty blogger, sunscreen, uv, uv protection, singapore blogger, review, asian blogger, hijabi blogger, fashion blogger, fashion blog, true white ex, true white ex perfect protector

Unlike the Power Block UV, this sunblock is a cream and is a lot thicker in texture. I actually find this one more comfortable to wear – it is super light and doesn’t have that sitting-on-skin feeling that the Power Block has. I use this sunblock under my makeup because it claims to act well as a base. Honestly, I’m not too sure how true that is but out of the three, this is definitely my favourite.

    3. True White Day Protector

Za, sunblock, true white, beauty, beauty blogger, sunscreen, uv, uv protection, singapore blogger, review, asian blogger, hijabi blogger, fashion blogger, fashion blog, true white ex, true white day protector

This sunblock provides the lowest UV protection with SPF 26, while the other two provide SPF 50. As such, I use this sunblock when I’m travelling during Winter. I brought it with me to Australia last June and it gave me just the right amount of UV protection that I needed during those months.

    Beauty Goals for 2016

Happy 2016, my friends! We’re one week into the new year, has it been treating you well? I’ve been spending my holidays travelling spending quality time with family and friends and just having a good break rejuvenating and refreshing myself for the year ahead. I hope everybody had a great time during the holiday season as well and you’re starting 2016 refreshed.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about new beauty products or techniques that I’d very much like to try this year. I like to stick to beauty routines I’m familiar with for the sake of convenience and time. My favourite looks have always included a strong lip colour, and as much as I love a good statement lip, it is nice to switch things up every once in a while 🙂 Here are some of my beauty goals for the year:

    1. Bring back the contour

Contouring isn’t new to me – I contour my face whenever I need to be on stage or when I am sporting a dark, bold lip for a nighttime look and I need some colour on my cheeks. 2015 was such a HUGE year for contour but I stayed away from it as I didn’t see the need for heavy contour on a day-to-day basis. However, recently, I have been breaking out the bronzer and brush in the daytime and I realise how much I love the way contouring looks under natural light. I’m quite sure that I will be experimenting with contouring again this year! I will be switching out my Bahama Mama for Sleek Makeup’s Face Form, I can’t wait to play around with my new kit!

    2. Experiment with more neutral lip colours

Neutral lip colours were tricky for me as with my skin tone, the wrong colour can really wash my lips out and make me look really pale and sickly. Hence, I usually opt for darker lip colours as they’re less risky buys but because of this, I haven’t got the chance to experiment with brown, neutral everyday looks as much. Last month I got my first tube of brown lipstick – Urban Decay Matte Revolution in 1993 – and I am in LOVE! This has opened a whole new world to me and now I want to get hands on as many brown/neutral lipsticks as I can, in all sorts of finishes. It also feels quite refreshing to have such an easy colour to work with in my makeup bag that complements almost every outfit that I have.

    3. Grow my brush collection

I’ve been saying this for ages – I NEED to grow my brush collection!! Good brushes are investments and it will take me a while to build a collection I’m proud of. This year, I want to make a conscious effort in slowly growing my personal set. I’d also like to start organising my brushes properly and developing a good routine to take care of them well. This brings me to my next point…

    4. Organise my makeup collection

My goodness, my makeup is EVERYWHERE! I have multiple makeup bags that I just store all of them in and they usually end up a mess after I rummage for products that I need when I go out. It’s time for me to sort out my makeup properly and get down to proper makeup organisation. If you have any tips or you know any good places with affordable makeup trays, do let me know –  I’d be very happy with any help I can get!

Is it really December already? How quickly time flies! December is my absolute favourite month because it’s my birthday month! A few days ago, I turned 22 and I am beyond thrilled that this year I spent my special day in Madinah on my pilgrimage to Mecca, a very important milestone for me in my life. Join me on my trip on Instagram, where I have been posting photos of the beautiful places I’m visiting!

In the past few days, I put together a little birthday wishlist with things I’ve seen on Instagram or over Twitter. Have a little read!

    1. Spectrum Collections 12-piece Siren Brush Set & Roll – I recently started following Spectrum Collections on their Instagram and their brush sets are A DREAM. They’re 100% vegan and cruelty-free, plus they come in a myriad of beautiful colours and are easily some of the prettiest brushes I have ever seen. I have been wanting to grow my brush collection for a while and these will do me so much good… unfortunately most of their sets are sold out 🙁 A girl can dream…
    2. Nanshy Stippling Makeup Brush – I discovered Nanshy through Twitter and really liked their brand identity. I would absolutely love to try their stippling brush, a staple that I’ve been meaning to get for my own collection for a long time.
    3. Yard Yarn Camila Pretzel Bib Neck Piece – I wrote about Yard Yarn a few months back for my piece for Singapore Fashion Runway and it’s been wonderful watching the brand grow on their Instagram. This eye-catching piece is so stunning with the different pieces of material used in crafting it. I don’t wear much jewelry but when I do, I love to keep to statement pieces!
    4. NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick – These days, I’m finding myself getting really interested in liquid lipsticks. I’ve only ever tried one, which was NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo. I’m currently eyeing their Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks, specifically the colours Soft-Spoken and Vintage. I’d very much like to see how different they are from the Soft Matte Lip Creams and experience the matte suede finish!
    5. Frank Body Scrub – SO MANY people have been recommending this to me on Twitter everytime I ask for scrub recommendations. I NEED to try it! I love the website’s branding and I’m always looking for new body products to try. Scrubs are my favourites – nothing quite like the feel of soft, exfoliated skin after a good shower.
    6. Ladurée Cream Cheek Base – I’ve been itching to try this blush ever since I saw it on this episode of ClickNetwork’s Tried and Tested. How adorable does it look? It’s a cream blusher that you can rub directly onto your cheeks because of the special dome shape of the blush. I’m in love with the romantic girly-type packaging – what a pretty dresser piece it will make!
    7. Alchemy Produx Candle  I discovered this brand as I was travelling in Australia in June this year and was so intrigued by their candles. Instead of typical cylindrical-shaped candles, Alchemy Produx sells theirs in beakers, conical flasks, etc. It’s so creative and being a lover of candles, it would be lovely if I could have one of them in my candle collection!
    8. Angela Roi Moa Tote in Mud-Gray – Here’s a little did-you-know about me: I love my bags big because I have a habit of bringing too many things when I head out. The Moa Tote is an everyday bag that’s the perfect size to accommodate everything I need on a normal day. The Mud-Gray colour is so lovely, sort of a muted camel shade that acts as an understated outfit piece that could complement an everyday dressed-down look.
    9. ZARA Flats with Metal Toe – I LOVE pointed toe shoes!! I tried this very pair on at ZARA a few months ago and haven’t stopped thinking about it ever since. It’s a little pointier and longer than regular pointed toe shoes which I really like. This sets it apart from others and it also brings a little something extra to an outfit. The metal tip adds a classy touch to the shoe – it really is all in the details when it comes to this pair!

December is also an exciting month because of the holiday season. If you’re looking for gift ideas, these are some presents that you could look into as well!
