    The Versatile Blogger Award

versatile blogger award, vba, blogger, blog, fashion blogger, fashion blog, style blog, personal style blog, beauty blog, hijabi blogger, hijabi blog, hijab style blog

Last week, I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award! This award was created for bloggers, by bloggers, to recognise blogs with unique content and high-quality photography. Special thanks to Tara from By Catstello for granting me this special opportunity to share a little more about myself and to help to recognise other bloggers as well!

Before I nominate 15 other bloggers for this award, here are 7 lesser-known facts about myself:

    1. I am extremely picky when it comes to shopping. It takes me forever to decide on a purchase, unless it’s a unique piece that’s a really good bargain for its quality, which explains why I love flea markets and thrift shops so much!

    2. I’m super particular about my shoes – I’ve had too many bad cheap shoe experiences so these days I make it a point to invest in good quality footwear that will stay with me for a long time. This doesn’t mean that the shoes I wear are expensive, it just means that I’m doing extra checks on the sole, material and a price tag that validates what I’m paying for.

    3. I don’t use many accessories because I always end up losing my favourite ones.

    4. I started experimenting with makeup when I was 14. Oh, those good ol’ eyeliner and terribly-blended eyeshadow days!

    5. I’ve recently adopted cycling as a form of transport from home to my nearest bus/train stations and back. (It’s not very far but it still cuts my travelling time by quite a bit!) Glad to be reliving my old Rotterdam days!

    6. I have a sweet tooth! I’m especially fond of caramel.

    7. I have a soft spot for scented products – scented candles, scented body wash, scented lip balm and the list goes on…  I don’t have a favourite scent but I have preferences for scent type according the the product e.g. I prefer sweet/fresh scents for bath products but more rich, flowery scents for candles.

Through Bloglovin, Twitter and Instagram, I’ve been having lots of fun discovering and getting to know many great bloggers from all over the world. Here are the top 15 that I’m nominating for the Versatile Blogger Award:

    1. Style Wish Blog

    2. Blushing Wit

    3. Lotus Closet

    4. Soph’s Choices

    5. Beneath the Brush

    6. Ramona Crisstea

    7. Cheeky Billo Blog

    8. Secrets of a Rose

    9. A Blog by Bry

    10. Blue Eyed Fashionista

    11. Ordaining Serendipity

    12. Michelle Alice

    13. VieAvecLeigh

    14. Brass Buttons & Confidence

    15. DrenchColor

Blogger awards like this are amazing because they foster stronger ties within the blogger community and give us the extra push to connect with one another. Over this past year and three months of Rouge & Ruche, I’ve come across so many wonderful people and it’s great to see everyone working together and creating content that they love!

Dressin’ up for a rockin’ good time

About a week ago, I received an email from Meryem, a reader from Morocco, who wanted some style advice for a rock-themed event that she was going to. I was more than happy to put a few looks together for her!

Look 1: The Classic Rocker Chick

What’s rock n’ roll without leather? For this look, I styled a classic rocker chick getup with a leather-look jacket over a slouchy white tee, some acid-washed grey jeans and a pair of leather lace-up boots. Finish it off with a dark red lip and you’re ready to go! You may choose to bump up the edge with some studded accessories or chains, but don’t go overboard – less is more.

    Look 2: Grunge-inspired

The second look is grunge-inspired and styled around another rock fashion staple – a red plaid button-down. Get the right cut and fit following your physique and preferences, for instance, I would prefer a longer and oversized button-down because I feel that it’s a lot easier to move in and it suits my body type best. Pair this with a band print muscle tee and some leather-look pants. Top it off with a pair of black monochrome Converse sneakers and a basic smoky eye with Maybelline’s 24-hour Colour Tattoo in Timeless Black!

A mix between looks 1 & 2, this look styles items from both looks to create an outfit with an almost-gothic grunge vibe. Throw the leather jacket over a muscle band tee and some grey acid-washed jeans with the plaid shirt tied around your waist, so it acts as an accessory rather than a main clothing item. Complete the look with a pair of black monochrome Converse sneakers and a black cateye liner to keep it simple, but you may also swap the sneakers for a pair of leather boots and sport a dark red lip and eyeliner to play up the gothic grunge factor.

Rock-inspired outfits can be tricky to put together but I did my best with these looks and I do hope that Meryem found inspiration in them. If you are looking for style advice, feel free to drop me an email and I’ll do the best I can to help!

    Friday inspiration

How’s 2015 treating everyone so far? The weather has been awfully strange – sunny one moment and pouring like crazy the next. I suppose this could be the reason behind my falling ill earlier this week. I’ve been spending the past few days recuperating from a flu and fever – not the best way to spend the first week of the year. But I am much better now, even more so with the weekend up ahead! Here’s some Friday inspiration – some of my latest pins on my Pinterest and my song of the week that I dug up from my VK playlist while I was sick and miserable in bed. Enjoy!
