Trust me to put together another floral + leather outfit combination, I don’t think I’d be comfortable wearing my florals any other way… I’m not a big fan of slotting myself into categories but a dear friend (and upcoming stylist) mentioned the term “Girly Grunge” and I suppose it’s the closest thing to describing this whole getup. If you have been following me on Instagram, you would be aware that I have been busy with Eid celebrations this week (Eid Mubarak errrbady), therefore the fading henna art. I recently rediscovered this lovely floral button-down in my new closet – it was given to me by a close girlfriend who was clearing hers out about a year ago. It’s about time I started digging up more of these forgotten pieces, don’t you think?

    Beating the Heat

My love for oversized garments stem from my everyday battle against the heat back in Singapore. I am in love with the fabric used for this dark blue button-down and it is extremely lightweight, therefore perfect for layering in this hot and humid weather. I have been sporting the red-and-blue combo quite frequently as of late – 3 times the past week, the last I counted – and no, it didn’t have anything to do with the 4th of July weekend about two weeks back (though I did, coincidentally, wear red, white and blue on that particular Saturday). When I’m not out in sandals, I take my trusty 4-year-old Converse sneakers out instead and they add a touch of cool to any outfit I choose for the day. If you’ve been observant over the past few months, you would have noticed that I have been paying more attention to the bags that I carry together with my outfit… this beauty here was a find from the leather market in Florence, borrowed from my sister.

Fun fact: The white maxi tank dress I’m wearing was actually worn the other way round, so that I didn’t have to deal with a low neckline in front! Gotta keep finding ways to make various pieces of clothing work for you 😉

    Gaya Island Getaway

It’s been slightly more than a week since I moved out of my apartment in the Netherlands and flew back to Singapore at the end of my student exchange in Europe. The past 6 months have been nothing short of amazing and returning home feels like a jolt back to reality… but not before a final vacation with my beloved family on Gaya Island, a tropical retreat located off the coast of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.

I spent my 4 days on the island slipping into food comas, mingling with starfish and jellyfish in the ocean (amongst other sea critters) and kayaking along the coast of the resort’s private beach. Getting used to the heat and humidity in this part of the world isn’t too bad when you have a pool and the sea to jump into whenever the weather gets too warm to bear. Button-downs have gone back to becoming my go-to pieces for this weather, and I have been sporting mostly flared pants or loose trousers for the past week.

Scroll down to view some of my favourite snaps from my island vacation, aside from the ones that are already up on my Instagram. One particular snap below features my younger brother, who decided to jump in and strike a pose beside me, moments before we were due to leave the island at the end of our stay. Enjoy!
