    Changes

It’s a very strange feeling, coming back home after half a year of living abroad. The past 6 months feel like a dream, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it all really did happen. You come home and nothing seems to have changed but you feel… different. I find it most perplexing that I open up my wardrobe now and I find that I can’t seem to identify with half of the clothes that I have in there. I have been exposed to so many different styles and influences that my own personal style has changed over the past half a year I’ve been away. It has become a new challenge for me to find ways to merge this… newfound sense of style with the one I possessed pre-exchange. Style boards on Pinterest have made this task a lot easier for me – I’m not an avid user of the platform but I do foresee myself coming back to these boards time and time again. Here are a few street style inspirations I have found that correspond very closely to what I *hope* this merging of pre- and post- styles will amount to! Now, to recreate wearable versions of these for Singapore’s heat…

    The Finale: Copenhagen

I was in Copenhagen over the past weekend and in the earlier part of the week, together with my uncle, who was in Europe for a short visit. The city made it to my list of favourite places in the world – everything was so delightfully artsy and hip (do people still use this word?) and I loved every bit of it. Personal experience led me to realize that it was better to discover a city without having high prior expectations, and it was only after doing a bit of travelling myself that I started to discover what I really wanted to gain out of these travels. There’s a lot of talk about wanderlust floating around on the internet and I used to tell myself that I wanted to go out and see the world and everything that it has to offer. It was only after I got thrown into that world that I realized that what I thought I wanted didn’t really match up to what I really needed. Travelling shouldn’t be a checklist of places and sights that we have to strike out as quickly as possible, but rather, a collection of eye-opening experiences and discoveries that help you to grow with every new adventure that you take. I’m thankful that I got the chance to embark on a few of such adventures, and I do hope that there will be many more to come.

Self-reflection and personal thoughts aside, Copenhagen was definitely an experience that I hope I will get to relive again in the near future. I was lucky to have my uncle with me, and being every bit of the artist that he is, he knew exactly where to go and which spots to see during our 3-4 day stay. Freetown Christiania is definitely a must-go, and I enjoyed discovering cafes and street art in the neighbourhood of Vesterbro where I was staying. Be sure to drop by the flea market at Onkel Danny’s Plads if you are in the city on a Sunday. We got lucky and found it by pure coincidence.

Here are my favourite snaps of Copenhagen. Enjoy!

My last Sunday in Rotterdam was spent barbecuing satay (prepared by yours truly) by the lake with my beloved roommate. I finally got the chance to wear this satiny button-down shirt that I snagged from the Blaak market a couple of months back. I’ve also been sporting new sandals as of late, I got this lovely pair from New Look on a shopping spree two weeks ago. I never thought I’d be able to pull them off, I’m so glad they fit so well! I’ve always been more of a T-bar fan. On a related note: I don’t think I’ve ever been this unprepared for warm weather my whole life – I had to dig through my entire wardrobe for quite a while before I found something weather-appropriate for a Summer day out. I’m totally not looking forward to going back to thirty-something degree weather in a few days’ time…
