    Eid Glossier Haul & Review

Eid Hari Raya Makeup Make-up Haul Glossier Lidstar Perfecting Skin Tint Dark Lash Slick Singapore Beauty Blogger Blog Hijabi Blogger Modest Fashion

Selamat Hari Raya/Eid Mubarak my friends!! I’m writing up this post in between visits – I’ve been down with the flu the past week and this weekend is going to be a busy one with lots of visiting, eating and spending time with my family. A few days ago my package from Glossier came with some products that I wanted to use for the festive period. It was a great pick-me-up when I was feeling down and ill!

I’ve been eyeing the Perfecting Skin Tint for a while now. I stopped wearing foundation a few years ago and I’ve been trying to clear my skin, so this felt like the right fit if I wanted a little something extra before I apply my concealer. I knew what to expect – sheer, dewy coverage that evens out my skin tone with a subtle brightening effect. It feels comfortable on my face and I like how my skin still looks like skin, textures and all. I might even consider including this in my everyday makeup routine!

I love mascara. It’s the most important part of my makeup routine for me, and I’m always on the hunt for new products to try. So imagine my excitement when Lash Slick was released! I knew I had to get it. I applied it for the first time this morning and I’m really impressed with how it lengthens and separates my lashes. What’s lacking for me is volume. I love thick dramatic lashes, and this just didn’t do that well enough for me.

Lidstar in Lily, Cub and Herb

I was looking forward to trying this the most! I was really tempted to get every colour from the Lidstar range, but I managed to restrain myself – at least for now :p What I noticed when I swatched this was that the darker colours felt smoother and more evenly pigmented as compared to the lighter colour (Lily). I feel that this is quite common when you compare lighter pigments to darker ones in other products like lipstick, cream highlights, etc., so it didn’t bother me as much. I’m wearing Lily today and one tip that I can share is that with this product, application is key. Dabbing will give you a lot more colour payoff, versus swiping it all over the lid which is great for blending it out at the edges or creating a sheer wash of colour over the lids. But for maximum glitter, dab, dab, dab!

Have you tried any of these Glossier goodies?

    First Love

A while ago, I was catching up on Margaret Zhang’s recent work on her website when I stumbled upon something she wrote that resonated quite strongly with me. In this post, she writes, “…music taught me how to feel, and everything I touch creatively is driven by emotion – sometimes to an irrational degree.” I think it’s a statement that a lot of people can relate to. Music will always be my first love, and I spent many years learning to play the piano, singing, performing, and making music within the comfort of my bedroom walls. This later developed into an interest in dancing, which I do my best to nourish by attending open classes every now and then.

Music has the power to influence my mood in so many ways, it’s insane. These days, I’ve been staying connected to my favourite crooners and urban poets with a pair of Regent headphones from Swedish brand Sudio. They’ve kindly sent over a pair*, and I haven’t parted with them since. I love how classic they look – the white leather material complements the gold hardware so elegantly, and the marble caps add a subtle statement to the design. This is great because it means they’re versatile and I can match them with all of my outfits (the most important thing, lol!). I also appreciate that they’re Bluetooth headphones because my previous pair used to get tangled up in stuff a lot (yes, I can be quite clumsy). After using them for about 3 weeks, I notice that they last a really long time, and that’s coming from someone who tends to forget to charge anything that isn’t her phone or laptop. The website states that it’s built to last 24+ hours – I haven’t exactly put that to the test but I do notice that the battery life really does last quite a while!

In this look I styled them with my favourite denim jacket that I found at a flea market in Singapore. I love the acid wash finish and the statement graphic at the back – a nod to the Young Romance comic books that ran in the 50s and 60s. I also have on a pair of hand-crafted earrings from madebyhazymomo, and Urban Decay’s Vice Lipstick in Disturbed on my lips.

Sudio has very kindly offered a 15% off for my readers with the code rougeandruche. They’re having their pre-summer promotion now, which means that you’ll get a complimentary tote bag with every purchase from their website from now till 30 June. International delivery is free, and purchases come with a one-year international warranty.

I’ll leave you with a couple of my favourite tunes at the moment. I hope they get you grooving along as much as they did for me!

*I was sent a free product in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and are not influenced by the company and/or its affiliates in any way.

    January Hits & Misses

Is it really February already? Oh, how time flies! This year I thought I’d introduce a little series onto my blog and share with you my monthly hits and misses so I’d get a chance to talk more about the products I use on a day-to-day basis. I love trying new products and a lot of the times, I end up really liking them and repurchasing them later on. But of course, I’ve had my fair share of heartbreaks… so I thought I’d spare you the pain with these little reviews!

    HITS

The Tasmanian Soap Company Goats Milk Bar Soap in No.6 Refreshing (not pictured) – I’m not usually a fan of bar soaps but I came across this company when I was in Hobart, Tasmania last June and I really wanted to try their products. No. 6 is lemongrass and lime-scented, which smells super refreshing! I loved it that the bar soap had lots of exfoliating beads that felt so good on the skin. My only issue with this soap is that it left my skin feeling a little bit dry after showers, which I read is a problem with bar soaps in general. Nothing a little bit of body butter won’t solve.

Yves Rocher Cherry Bloom Shower Gel – I got a bottle of this at a really great price on Sephora.sg and I was so glad that I liked it! Buying scented products online can be risky because you never really know how it will turn out until you receive your package in the mail. This shower gel smells wonderfully sweet, yet not overpowering. It doesn’t lather as much but feels lovely on the skin. Unfortunately, the smell doesn’t linger long, and I have to admit I prefer my Bath & Body Works shower gels over Yves Rocher ones. This was a hit for January, but I don’t think I will be repurchasing it anytime soon.

Urban Decay Naked Concealer in Medium – Behold, my new favourite concealer!! I’ll be doing a more in depth review of this later on but for now, I’d just like to profess my love for this goodness in a tube. It feels so comfortable on my skin and provides just the right amount of coverage. Definitely the biggest hit of the month!

    MISSES

hits & misses, beauty, beauty blog, beauty blogger, style blogger, reviews, yves rocher, urban decay, flatlay

Yves Rocher Ecolabel Radiance Shampoo – I wanted to like this one so much, especially so since it’s eco-friendly. But alas, this one’s such a big miss in my books. To be fair, it does what it’s supposed to do as shampoo, which is, well, cleaning my hair. But it leaves my hair feeling dry and lifeless, which is not something I’ve experienced with shampoo before. I’d very much want to explore more eco-friendly products, but I think I’ll do a lot more research before I make my next purchase.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Whisky – Ah, what a waste! I’ve heard so much about this product but it disappointed me on one aspect: it smudges. The one thing I thought it wouldn’t do, but it did. I have to admit, I LOVE how this looks on my eyelids – it gives my eyes just the right amount of smokyness for my daytime looks. But this will not last in the humidity in Singapore and smudges all over my eyelids. I’m running out of hope. When will I find my perfect pencil eyeliner?
